Tradetopia Field Notes — Issue #44

Let me keep it “one hunnid” with you today.
There's a version of "learning" that's more hiding than progressive..
You know the one... Reading another book. Watching another YouTube video. Paper trading for the 4th month in a row. Researching which prop firm has the best payout structure before you've even placed 10 consistent trades lol.
It feels productive. It feels responsible. It feels like progress.
It's reallyyyy not.
The Spectator Problem
I've interacted with over +100,000 traders in my career. One of the most consistent patterns I've seen across all skill levels, all backgrounds, all experience… is this:
The people who "know the most" are often the furthest from consistent results.
Not because knowledge isn’t of value, but because at some point, knowledge without execution becomes a security blanket.
You use studying as a reason not to trade. You use preparation as a reason not to commit. Maybe without you even realizing it, you’re always on the defensive.
The goal posts keep moving. And you stay comfortable.
What Bobby P Taught Me
In 2021 I studied a concept that reframed this for me completely.
He called it the Knowing-Doing Gap.
The idea is simple: You don't have an information problem. You have a paradigm problem.
You learn with your conscious mind, but you operate from your subconscious patterns. And those patterns, built over years, are designed to keep you safe, not to help you grow.
So when you "know" what to do but don't do it, it might not only be because you're lazy. It's because your internal “operating system” doesn't yet support that behavior.
As you can see, it might not be a strategy problem. There’s conflict in the identity.
The Gap Doesn't Close With More Information
Here's the tough pill to swallow.
You CANNOT read your way into becoming a trader. You cannot watch your way there. You cannot plan your way there.
You can only DO your way there.
The DOING has to happen inside a container: with feedback, with accountability, with someone watching your charts and telling you what you actually see versus what you think you see. Because you cannot correct what you cannot observe. It's nearly impossible to observe yourself clearly when you're learning alone.
This is the real reason the YouTube rabbit hole doesn't work efficiently. Not because the content is bad. Because there's no one on the other end to close the loop.
What Closing the Gap Actually Looks Like
Pick one behavior that matches the trader you say you want to be.
Maybe it's:
Taking the next clean setup with zero rationalizing
Reviewing your trades same-day, not next week
Exiting at your system's target instead of your emotional override
Do it once. Then again. Then again.
That's how you override the old script. That's how the nervous system starts to trust you. That's how you stop being a student of trading and start being a trader.
Work Through The Skill Gap
Every trader is at a different level of “resistance”. Some might barely be getting off the starting line, some feel like they keep falling back almost to the beginning, switching from CFDs to futures and others are reaching new highs and finding new exciting levels of resistance to break through.
Try looking at improving your trading through just one lens. Instead of improving everywhere all at once, focus on the one main lever of improvement. Might be the terminology. Might be refining your entry strategy. Might be reviewing your data and seeing if you can push your RR further.
Go deep, not wide.
One More Thing
This Wednesday, April 29 at 8pm CST, Nancy and I are doing a live walkthrough of Fast Track Cohort 2 before it kicks off May 1.
We built this program specifically for the trader I described above. The one who's been "learning" for months or years and hasn't quite crossed the line into actually doing it. The container that closes the gap: the sequence, the feedback, the accountability, the structure… Gaining 2 years of serious experience in 30 days. That's what 30 days of Fast Track looks like.
Come see it. No pressure. Just a walkthrough of what the 30 days actually looks like and where it leads.
It's free. 90 minutes. Link below.
[Register here → https://tradetopia.pro/fast-track]
20 seats. Cohort 2 starts May 1.
From Tradetopia,
Mike Navarrete 🧙🏽♂️
PS: If this hit for you, share it with someone you know who's been "learning" a little too long.
